Can anyone provide a basic explanation of what mapping is in mathematics, at a High School/Calc 1+2 level?

I’m doing something outside of school regarding manifolds, but since I’ve barely any understanding of partial derivatives and other things, I was wondering if anyone has a really basic explanation of it that I could use to better understand my readings. Thank you :))
